2 men injured in 2 overnight shootings on Jacksonville’s Eastside, Westside

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is currently investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, prompting concerns within the community.

The first shooting transpired in an Eastside neighborhood, with the second occurrence unfolding on the Westside. JSO received notification regarding both incidents, which were approximately an hour apart.

The initial incident took place around 1 a.m. on East 1st Street. According to JSO reports, an officer stationed outside the Eastside Terrace Apartments was approached by a man in his 40s, who claimed to have been shot. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) promptly responded and transported the victim to the hospital. Fortunately, the man sustained non-life-threatening injuries, confined to his shoulder.

Subsequently, at approximately 1:55 a.m., JSO received reports of a second shooting, possibly occurring in the vicinity of I-295 and Normandy Boulevard. Despite the prompt response of a patrol officer, the scene of the incident was not immediately located.

Following the second shooting, a man in his 30s arrived at the hospital on his own accord, having sustained gunshot wounds to his hip and back. Fortunately, like the previous victim, his injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening.

JSO has asserted that they do not believe the two shootings are connected, although investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Authorities are actively collaborating with the injured individuals to ascertain potential motives behind the shootings, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in their efforts to ensure public safety.
