Microsoft weighs launching Indiana Jones on the PS5

Bethesda’s upcoming Indiana Jones game, titled “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” may also find its way to Sony’s PlayStation 5 console. Initially revealed during Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct event, the game was announced for Xbox and PC. Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans indicate that Bethesda is contemplating the possibility of bringing “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” to the PS5.

Microsoft appears to be adopting a new multi-platform approach for select Xbox games, weighing which titles will remain exclusive and considering others for release on platforms like the Nintendo Switch or PS5. While the Indiana Jones game will debut as an Xbox console exclusive, sources suggest that this exclusivity period will be relatively short. Bethesda is reportedly considering a PS5 release a few months later, tentatively targeting December 2024 for the Xbox and PC versions.

It’s important to note that exact release timings and platform availability for “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” are subject to change, especially as Microsoft’s new multi-platform strategy is still in the process of being finalized. The company has been evaluating the possibility of bringing some Xbox exclusives to rival consoles in recent months, with games like “Sea of Thieves” and “Hi-Fi Rush” reportedly under consideration. An announcement for the non-Xbox platforms of “Hi-Fi Rush” is expected in the coming weeks.

The decision to bring Bethesda’s games to non-Xbox platforms aligns with recent reports, including the potential release of “Starfield” on PS5 following the game’s “Shattered Space” expansion for Xbox and PC. Last year, it was revealed during the FTC v. Microsoft case that “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” was initially planned for multiple consoles. The contract with Disney, the licensor, was amended to make it an Xbox console exclusive after Microsoft acquired Bethesda. The internal debate at Microsoft over bringing Xbox games to rival consoles has seemingly led to the conclusion that select titles, including “Indiana Jones,” will have multi-platform releases, although details remain crucial.
