Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s wife, Susan Pompeo, tested positive for the coronavirus just before her husband went into quarantine earlier this month, after the two of them came under fire for having the department host multiple office parties, Bloomberg reports.

Secretary Pompeo, who has not tested positive for COVID-19, entered quarantine after coming into contact with someone who has or had the virus. The State Department has not publicly identified this person or specified how Susan Pompeo contracted the virus. The department canceled its remaining holiday parties after the secretary announced his quarantine.

The Pompeos had previously faced criticism for continuing to have the State Department host parties despite the department advising employees to avoid “non-mission critical events,” though it’s unclear if Susan Pompeo actually attended these parties.

Numerous members of the Trump administration have contracted the coronavirus, including President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, and White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

The State Department declined to comment to Bloomberg.
