1 man dead, another injured while repairing tire on exit ramp to I-10 after car crashes into pickup truck

A tragic incident occurred on Monday shortly before noon on the Interstate 295 north exit ramp to eastbound Interstate 10 in Florida, resulting in the death of a 42-year-old man. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the fatal collision involved a pickup truck and a sedan.

The sequence of events outlined in the FHP report indicates that a black sedan driven by a 24-year-old woman from Jacksonville collided with a pickup truck that had come to a stop on the highway to assist a tractor-trailer with a tire repair. The impact of this initial collision caused the pickup truck to strike two individuals who were present at the scene.

Following the crash, the driver of the sedan fled from the scene but was later apprehended by authorities. Meanwhile, one of the two men struck by the pickup truck, a resident of Jacksonville, tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, a 48-year-old from Live Oak, sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Due to the severity of the collision and subsequent investigation, the exit ramp to I-10 eastbound on I-295 north remained closed for over four hours, causing traffic disruptions in the area. However, the ramp reopened shortly after 4 p.m., allowing traffic to resume its flow.
