Man shot during 'physical altercation' over woman on Jacksonville's Westside

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the altercation was over a woman, as “everyone involved in the incident” has been detained and will be interviewed.

A man was shot during a dispute over a woman on Jacksonville’s Westside Friday morning, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Around 11 a.m., officers responded to a call in the 14000 block of Bell Estates Road regarding the shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered an unidentified man in his mid-50s with injuries. First responders from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported the man to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation by JSO, the injured man had engaged in a physical altercation with an unidentified man in his late 30s who resides nearby. The altercation occurred at the suspect’s residence.

Sergeant Richardson of JSO explained, “During that altercation, there was a tussle over a firearm. During that tussle, the firearm went off, striking the victim in the abdomen one time.”

All individuals involved in the incident have been detained and will undergo interviews with detectives, as per Richardson. Detectives are present on the scene, gathering statements from witnesses, and examining the area for potential surveillance footage.
